EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique
Sometimes, even when we know we shouldn’t feel anxious, stressed, or stuck in the same old patterns, our body seems to hold on. Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), often called “tapping,” is a gentle, evidence-based method that helps release emotional tension and calm the nervous system.

What is EFT?
EFT combines elements of modern psychology with the ancient principles of acupressure. It was developed in the 1990s by Gary Craig as an accessible way to support emotional healing and stress relief. By lightly tapping on specific acupressure points on the face and body while focusing on a thought, feeling, or memory, you can send calming signals to your brain, reduce the emotional intensity, and help your body feel safer and more at ease.
How does EFT work?
When we’re triggered by stress, fear, or old emotional wounds, the body’s “fight-or-flight” response kicks in. EFT helps interrupt this stress response. While you gently tap on a sequence of meridian points, you bring mindful attention to the feeling or thought that’s been difficult to shift. This process helps the brain and body rewire their connection to that experience—reducing anxiety, releasing stuck emotions, and creating more space for clarity and relief.
EFT is simple yet powerful. Many people notice an immediate sense of calm during a session, while deeper patterns may take a few sessions to fully release. It’s a collaborative process—you’re always in control, and there’s no need to re-traumatize yourself or relive painful experiences in detail.
What can EFT help with?
EFT tapping has been used to support a wide range of emotional and physical challenges, including:
-
Stress, anxiety, and overwhelm
-
Trauma and post-traumatic stress
-
Fears, phobias, and limiting beliefs
-
Chronic pain and tension in the body
-
Self-doubt, low confidence, and negative self-talk
-
Emotional eating, cravings, and unwanted habits
-
General emotional regulation and resilience
Research has shown EFT can lower cortisol (the stress hormone) and improve overall emotional well-being. It’s a wonderful tool on its own or as part of a wider therapy journey.
